46 members set off on a lovely sunny June morning to spend 4 nights at Daish’s Hotel, Shanklin, Isle of Wight.
We were so lucky the sun didn’t stop shining for the entire stay. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the break and are looking forward to the next holiday in the Regent Hotel, on the seafront at Weymouth, from 30th Jan to 3rd Feb 2017. We have 2 Sea View Twin Rooms available at £130.00 per person and 1 Twin Room at £120.00 per person.

Even though its winter its good to have a break away where you have a comfortable en suite room, breakfast and evening meal, live entertainment every evening, its a good chance to meet up and enjoy the Company of others.

We will again be making our annual visits to a ‘cream tea’ provider; the afternoon get-togethers are always very popular. Unfortunately we are still not able to visit Wick Farm but Fay has successfully obtained two dates at The Greenwood (B&B), 76 Main Road, West Huntspill.

The first date is Tuesday 12^th July, this was soon sold out when announced at the Coffee Morning; however, there is another booked for Thursday 21^st July again at The Greenwood. Both dates are arranged for a 3.30 pm. start.

The cost will be £5.00, this covers scones and tea/coffee, if you have special dietary needs please let Fay know because gluten-free scones can be provide. If you wish to attend the later date please tell Fay not later than Wednesday 13^th July.

Parking is somewhat limited, so if you are able to ‘car-share’ please try to do so. If, heaven forbid, the weather is inclement, the event will be held indoors.

Who’s Who

We are taking bookings for the holiday to Prince Regent Hotel, Weymouth from January 30th to February 3rd 2017 price £120.00, £10 supplement for sea view room. We have Twin and Sea View Twin rooms available. The price includes Coach pick up & return to Highbridge, half board en suite accommodation, live entertainment every evening. This is a lovely Hotel situated on Weymouth seafront and will be a lovely break to banish the Winter blues! Please see Di or Brenda at the Wednesday coffee morning or telephone 01278 781009.

The Photography Group is currently on a sabbatical and is expected to restart at some point in the future.

The Creative Writing and Sewing Groups have sadly closed for the foreseeable future due to lack of regular attendees.

Details for the above groups have been removed from this website and will be reinstated should those group restart in future.

A new trip to Hinkley Point Power Station will be arranged for sometime in August (exact date and price to be advised).

Should you wish to go on this tour, you will need a current British passport, or a photo driving licence, PLUS your birth certificate.

NO photographs to be taken and NO mobile phones allowed.

It is recommended that you wear sensible shoes, i.e. no sandals or high heels.

There will be a talk at EDF Office in Bridgwater prior to the visit to Hinkley B on the morning of the visit.

Local History Group

There is to be a meeting at

Southwell House

On Wednesday 13^th April at 2.30 pm

To discuss and, hopefully, form this new group.

The purpose of this group is to study and investigate the history of, Highbridge and its surrounding area, also when the opportunities arise, to spend some time looking into the history of places which we feel warrant further investigation and that have been suggested by group members.

The formation of our own Ukulele Band Group has moved on quite a bit since the initial announcement was made in the last magazine. The group held its inaugural meeting at the Community Hall on Thursday 4th February, Mick Emms, its Leader, had gathered together 7 members who were interested in learning to play this instrument.

We wish them all success and look forward to them entertaining us in the not too distant future.
